Medad Tavern Whiskey Barrel Blend is a Guatemalan coffee aged 30 days in locally sourced whiskey barrels, a Guilford Roasting Company specialty inspired by local history. The whiskey is long gone, but the flavor remains — a medium roast with notes of brown sugar, vanilla, and a smooth caramel finish.

The Story Behind the Name
Nestled along Three Mile Course in Guilford, Connecticut, the Medad Stone Tavern stands as a testament to early 19th-century ambition. Built in 1803 by Medad Stone, a Guilford native who had inherited his father's tavern on the town green and co-owned a stagecoach line hauling public mail, the sturdy Dutch Colonial structure was meant to be a bustling roadside inn. Stone sited it away from the town green, anticipating a legislative reroute of the Boston Post Road that would bring travelers past his door — even petitioning the Connecticut General Assembly to improve the roads. The reroute never happened, and the tavern never poured its first ale.

We honor Medad's unrealized dream with this whiskey barrel-aged coffee.
